Albemarle County Resident Struck by Tractor Trailer on Interstate 64 – $1.2M
An Albemarle County resident has settled his personal injury claim against a transportation company after his vehicle was struck from the rear by a tractor trailer on Interstate 64. In an attempt to avoid striking our client’s vehicle from the rear, the tractor trailer driver swerved to the left. This maneuver pushed our client’s vehicle off the road and into an embankment. Our client’s vehicle struck several trees and the embankment with great force. Our client suffered a lumbar vertebra fracture, cervical strain, and injuries to his chest, head, abdomen, and hand. The case was settled for $1.2 million at mediation.

Central Virginia Residents recover $1M After Tractor Trailer Crash
Ritchie Law Firm clients from Central Virginia were traveling on I81 South in Frederick County when their vehicle was struck from the rear as traffic on the Interstate slowed. Our clients, a mother (who was driving the vehicle) and her son, were buckled in their vehicle, while the tractor trailer driver hit their vehicle at approximately 65 miles per hour. The impact of the collision pushed our clients into the vehicle in front of them. The frontal impact caused our clients’ vehicle to catch fire. The son was able to escape from the vehicle, but the mother was unable to exit the vehicle and died in the fire. The son suffered a broken jaw and multiple facial lacerations. The case settled for $1 million, which was the limit of the tractor trailer company’s insurance policy.
